Head of Campaigns and Communications.

£60,567 – £82,913pa

Global or remote, with a preference for Johannesburg, Nairobi, London or Amsterdam.

The Role:

This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned campaigns & communications leader who wants to help people harness their own power to achieve a feminist, just, green transition in the 45 countries where ActionAid works.

You will drive campaigns and communications strategy and ensure strategy is translated into effective delivery to maximise our impact and grow our supporter base. Working closely with our national member organisations and allies, you will build bottom-up campaigns that strengthen movement power, and amplify local struggles globally through great story-telling and savvy media tactics.

Together with a small but mighty team of media, digital, and campaigns experts, you will anchor and nurture a dynamic community of campaigners, organisers, activists and comms specialists across the ActionAid Federation, promoting continued innovation and learning as we double down our efforts to become a more effective global campaigning force.

Who we’re looking for:

With seven or more years’ senior experience in managing South-South and South-North campaigns and/or communications in an international setting, you’re able to navigate ambiguity and build strong, trusting relationships with diverse stakeholders. You’re a collaborative and courageous leader who exemplifies our feminist leadership approach, including self-awareness, self-care and caring for others, dismantling bias, inclusion, sharing power, responsible & transparent use of power, respectful feedback, and zero tolerance for discrimination or abuse.

You’re used to working magic with a limited set of resources through your creative ideas, drive for results and ability to galvanise resources and commitment from internal and external stakeholders. You’re clued up on policy, able to get to grips quickly with complex issues and translate them into compelling messages, timely evidence and winning theories of change. You’re on top of global trends in communications and campaigning with an appetite to drive innovation.

What we offer:

ActionAid is committed to providing a welcoming, supportive workplace where we recognise a job well done and safeguarding standards are upheld. At ActionAid, you can look forward to a fair compensation package and a flexible working environment, including:

  • A workplace that embraces intersectional feminist principles
  • Generous maternity, paternity and adoption pay
  • Over 4 weeks paid holiday a year
